This 1965 Pontiac Catalina is one pristine piece. The fine machine is fitted with the rare 2+2 performance package and looks ready to roll well past the 80,000 miles currently showing on its odometer. Model-year 1965 saw the debut of 2+2 as a full-blown performance package instead of a mere trim package. It was more comparable to Pontiac’s intermediate-sized GTO option. The base engine for the 2+2 was the formidable 421 CI Tri-Power V-8. The 1965 Catalinas were the product of a major styling redesign with new sheet metal that was designed in the popular Coke-bottle profile of the day and a swoopy fastback that was mandatory for all two-door hardtop units.

Some minor engineering upgrades, such as the introduction of new transmissions and changes to the wheelbase, were also included in the redesign. The Fontaine Blue paint on this 1965 Catalina is in great condition, as are its badging and accenting chrome pieces, including the bumpers, door trim and light surrounds. All sheet metal is original and the undercarriage has been detailed. The lavish interior has been shown the same amount of care as the exterior, featuring black bucket seats and console, black carpets, a factory tachometer, air conditioning and the original sport steering wheel.

Comfort options include an AM/FM radio with reverb, power steering and brakes, and a remote trunk release. The matching-numbers 421 CI Tri-Power V-8 under the hood is fitted with three Rochester 2-barrel carburetors, dual exhaust and transistor ignition. Power from the hulking V-8 is sent to the 8-lug rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission controlled by a console-mounted Hurst shifter. This Catalina 2+2 is accompanied by the original window sticker, build sheet, sales invoice, Protect-O-Plate, original dealer pouch and original manuals.
