The term “solid gold” could apply to a car like this ’67 GTX, but one would be more inclined toward saying “pure American horsepower.” Reworked for enjoyment, this inaugural-year example of Plymouth’s deluxe B-body muscle car is finished in Citron Gold BZ2 with a gorgeous black vinyl roof and matched, black, tooled vinyl interior. This refreshed car is detailed throughout, with substantial refinements mechanically. Though appearing stock at first glance, its 440 CI block has been stroked to 493 CI by Blueprint Engines. This was topped with aluminum heads and intake manifold, TTI ceramic coated headers, and other upgrades that resulted in 550 HP and 575 lb-ft of torque.
A custom shrouded, aluminum, four-core radiator and dual Spal temperature-controlled fans keep it all working under fire, with a stainless gas tank feeding fuel to those cubes. With a 727 automatic transmission featuring a billet converter and Gear Vendors overdrive coupled with a Strange 3.73 Sure Grip Dana 60 differential, you can enjoy it off the line or on the highway. To get the most out of this combo, U.S. Car Tool frame connectors were used to tie the car’s subframes together.
A highly detailed and restored front suspension featuring Hemi torsion bars, Firm Feel steering gear and a Flaming River steering column and u-joint take care of driving prowess via the custom Budnik steering wheel, while the RMS Street Lynx 4-link rear suspension with Viking coilovers work on the effort out back. Stopping is easy via a Hydroboost braking system and SSBC drilled and slotted 4-wheel disc brakes. Inside the Legendary Auto interior, Vintage Air, auxiliary gauges and Legendary Auto interior covers on upgraded high-back front bucket seats are among the adaptations, while the console still hosts the factory chrome shifter.
With a 440 hood ornament, twin decorative hood scoops, dual outside mirrors, a flip-open gas cap and lower rocker chrome trim, it retains that feel of classic Detroit performance, while a final upgrade to Billet Specialties polished aluminum salt-flat wheels and modern tires puts it into the present. All in all, the standard shown here is indeed solid with purebred power.
