This 1968 Plymouth GTX Custom has been donated by the seller with the proceeds benefiting the Gary Sinise Foundation, an organization dedicated to serving veterans and first responders and their families. Actor Gary Sinise created the foundation after portraying Lieutenant Dan in the movie “Forest Gump.” This factory 440 “X” was previously acquired in the early 2000s by TV personality and “Overhaulin’” host Chris Jacobs. To create an ultimate statement of the era, Jacobs had the car freshened up in 2005 by legendary customizer and “Overhaulin’” colleague Chip Foose, when it was upgraded to include a Foose-designed paint scheme, Foose wheels, and Baer disc brakes.
The body was stripped and media-blasted before being refinished in PPG silver, black and orange hues that were applied by Foose himself. At that time, the car was equipped with an RB-series 440-CI V-8 Chrysler engine with a Six Pack setup. In 2016, a small fire damaged its engine compartment during a photo shoot, but the incident left the paint and appearance of this Foose-built Mopar otherwise unharmed. As a result of the incident, a modern 392 CI HEMI Mopar crate V-8 engine rated at 485 HP and 472 lb-ft of torque was installed by noted television host and Mopar restoration expert Mark Worman of “Graveyard Carz” fame.
The engine conversion was featured in episodes 10 and 12 of season eight of “Graveyard Carz,” after which the car was displayed at the 2017 SEMA show. “Graveyard Carz” painter Will Scott and the late Mike La Valle redid the engine bay paint and airbrushing under the hood. The fresh custom interior was completed by Mopars5150 in 2025, and an automatic transmission now backs up the freshened mill. Looking for star power and a desire to help heroes? This GTX offers both and more.
