Very rare in the UK, the GTO MR was essentially a lightweight, driver-focused GTO Twin-Turbo that deleted complex electronics in the interests of outright performance. Mitsubishi’s GTO was a high tech, high performance front-engined sports coupé manufactured in Nagoya, Japan between 1990 and 1999. Replacing the Starion, the GTO moniker was only used for the Japanese domestic market and the model was known in all other markets as the 3000 GT. Powered by a twin-turbo 3-litre V6 producing just shy of 300bhp. 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds. Full time four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, active aerodynamics, electronically controlled suspension.
The GTO MR was essentially a lightweight GTO Twin-Turbo that deleted 4WS, ABS, ECS and Active Aero, but was mechanically identical to the normal GTO Twin Turbo aside from a final drive ratio of 4.154:1. Imported by our vendor, this facelift 1998 GTO has only covered 34,000 miles (54,000km confirmed by its history) from new. The history file is scant, but the book-pack has an amazing number of stamps on the sheets in Japanese that give just an idea that this was undoubtedly a very special car. The service history is comprehensive and recorded at 1,694km, 2,303km, 5,075km, 5,825km, 8,187km, 11,875km, 19,028km, 25,971km, 31,357km, 45,608km, 50,995km, 52,242km and 53,790km.
Despite the MR being the lightweight version, this car comes very well specified with a tilt/slide sunroof, climate-control, electric bolster adjustment and electric folding mirrors. As can be seen from our images, the underside is very impressive and the interior and bodywork is untypically of a very high standard.
