French title - Same family since 1988 - Sold new in France. 58,650km genuine mileage - The rarest of the R107 models, only 2,148 examples - No reserve In the world of Mercedes R107 models, the 420 SL was known as the unicorn. In fact, only 2,148 examples were produced with the M116 V8 evolution, in-creased to 4.2L. This particular example is remarkable for several reasons. First of all, it was one of very few examples sold in France. It was sold new on the 17th April 1987 by the Mercedes of Courneuve dealership.

It combined a diamond blue metallic bodywork (code 355) with a black leather interior (271) and had cruise control options, a central armrest at the front, automatic air conditioning, electric win-dows and an external thermostat, as stated in its specification card. It was only the following year that it was purchased by the current owner's father, who used it scrupulously and mainly during holidays. Stamped until 2008, the service log-book bears witness to the low mileage which now displays a total 58,650 km from new, exceptionally low for such a model. Since 2008, other invoices show a consistent servicing.

This 420 SL is in very good condition and still has its log-books, the tool kit and even the first aid box. A road test enabled us to appreci-ate the excellent compromise of the 4.2L V8 engine, torquier and more powerful than the 6-cylinder version of the 300 and giving a more refined sensation than the 500 engine. This collector's item will appeal to connoisseurs due to its rarity, its clear history and its low mileage. Please note that the technical inspection is not valid due to the ABS warning light, and the suspension ball joint dust covers.
