The McLaren Speedtail is the company’s most innovative, sophisticated and powerful offering to date; it’s a technological and styling tour de force that only McLaren can conceive, in the company’s own words bringing “unprecedented levels of innovation and elegance to create a new benchmark in automotive design” and offering owners “extraordinary opportunity for bespoke personalisation.” No. 100 of just 106 built, this 2020 McLaren Speedtail from the world-renowned Michael Fux Collection exemplifies the intensely focused design brief McLaren applied to the concept’s extraordinary standards of design and bespoke finishing.
Shaped and detailed to carve through the air with maximum efficiency, its structure and contours are rendered in Titanium Deposition Carbon Fibre, which is infused with a micron-thin layer of titanium for incredible strength. At the same time, the Speedtail’s hydraulically activated rear bodywork is designed to flex in response to aero loading, smoothing the airflow and reducing turbulence.
Like McLaren’s original road car, the Gordon Murray-designed F1, the Speedtail features dihedral doors and a three-seat layout that provides the driver with the most expansive view possible, aided by retracting rearview HD cameras and electrochromatic glass that can be darkened by the driver to eliminate glare. Power is supplied by the midmounted 4.0L M840T twin-turbocharged V-8 engine derived from the McLaren Senna and combined with a parallel hybrid eMotor, with total output through the 7-speed Graziano dual-clutch transmission reaching an incredible 1,055 HP.
McLaren Special Operations (MSO) was commissioned to personalize this 2020 McLaren Speedtail with an exclusive Volcano Yellow exterior finish that includes the brake calipers, with Gloss Black providing a contrast on the lightweight 10-spoke wheels, engine cover, lower aero trim components, front wheel static covers and diffuser. Exterior detailing includes an enameled aluminum front badge, aluminum McLaren and Speedtail rear badges, Galvanic Gray brushed and polished brightwork, Gloss Black engine cover and Stealth Titanium exhaust finishers.
MSO also created the bespoke yellow and black interior appointments, pairing Volcano Yellow semi-Aniline quilted leather upholstery and matching seat belts with bespoke stitching and contrasting headrest embroidery. High-strength, 2×2, twill weave, gloss carbon fiber fabric was used on the luggage bin and tool kit cover. Further custom finishing is found in the backlit micro perforated sill plates, a titanium dedication plate and Zircon key brightwork, while the included fire extinguisher, warning triangle and first aid kit answer practical considerations.
The sum is a bespoke automobile of exquisite design and performance on a whole new level, as can only be imagined and executed by the minds at McLaren Automotive.
