Built on the renowned aluminium bonded chassis of the Elise, the Exige features a distinctive front spoiler, enhancing its aggressive aesthetics. The car is adorned with a prominent carbon fibre rear wing, reminiscent of the Esprit 350 Sport, further emphasising its racing pedigree. The entire bodywork is constructed from glass-reinforced plastic, just like the standard Elise, ensuring lightweight yet robust performance. Drawing inspiration from the radical Elise 340R, the Exige shares several components, including lightweight seats and wheels, enhancing its performance-oriented character.
One of the standout features of the Exige is the large polycarbonate rear window, which allows enthusiasts to admire the intricate mechanics of the engine beneath. Powering the Exige is a 1.8-litre K-series inline-four engine, delivering power to the rear wheels through an ultra-close ratio five-speed manual transmission. With a claimed top speed of 219 km/h, the Exige promises an exhilarating driving experience that is hard to match, both on track and on the road. Production of the Exige was extremely limited, with only around 604 units produced, of which just 250 were left-hand drive.
This remarkable black metallic Exige is one of those 250, featuring a beautifully appointed Alcantara interior, in outstanding condition, showing only 81 kilometres on the odometer: its original delivery mileage. Supplied new in 2001 by Lotus Import W.J. Van Der Kooi, the official Lotus importer in the Netherlands, to its first and current owner, it is fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox and a suite of factory options including air conditioning, red Alcantara sport seats with full harness belts, a radio fitting kit, driving lamps, a carbon airbox, and OEM Lotus alloys (16-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels).
While this Exige has been carefully preserved and is in excellent condition, having not been driven for the past 23 years, it will require recommissioning before use. It is not accompanied by any registration documents, but by a photocopy of the original purchase invoice listing its options, as well as one key.
