The 1968 Lotus Plus 2 was a stylish, more practical evolution of the iconic Elan. Designed by Colin Chapman, it featured a longer wheelbase and a 2+2 seating configuration, offering comfort without sacrificing Lotus’s renowned handling. Powered by a 1.6 litre twin-cam engine, it delivered around 118 horsepower. Fiberglass bodywork kept it lightweight, enhancing performance. With elegant lines and advanced engineering for its time, the Plus 2 blended sportiness and sophistication, appealing to enthusiasts seeking both speed and usability.

When this stunning Lotus was purchased by our vendor in 2014, it already had a comprehensive history file including previous bills and MoT test certificates dating back to the 1980’s. This was a good starting point for the following impressive list of works that were then undertaken; a full engine rebuild, Vernier sprockets, new cam bearings, chain tensioner, jack sprocket, full refurbishment of the original Weber carburettors, a new Aldon distributor, new HT cables, and a new stainless steel exhaust system. The braking system was rebuilt and the car was fitted with new anti-roll bushes, a new alternator and battery.

The car was sold in 2017 and was missed by the owner, so, when an opportunity arose in 2023 to purchase it back, he did just that! Used as a daily driver by our vendor, this stylish Lotus performed well on a recent test drive and unsurprisingly turned heads. With a realistic estimate and in stunning condition, this Lotus is ready for a new owner. Consigned by Dominic Lake
