Legendary in off-road and military communities alike, Land Rover has served the needs of both private citizens and governments since 1948 when it first introduced the Series I. Thanks to a steel shortage and an aluminum surplus, early Land Rovers were built of aluminum, which thwarted rust and corrosion, seeing to a long life. Land Rover claimed a few years ago that 70% of its vehicles were still in use, a huge claim, especially for a company building vehicles meant to be used in difficult terrain and for challenging work. In 1955, after several wheelbase and amenities variations had been offered, the 107 Station Wagon was introduced with seating for up to 10 people.

This would later beget the 110, upon which not only would a station wagon continue to be offered, but a number of other bodies as well. It was from this that the Defender 110 would be conjured up in the 1980s, offering a refined chassis for improved ride dynamics, a more comfortable and modernized interior and engineering improvements that allowed for more reliability, robustness and usefulness. It appealed to a wider audience, thanks to these changes, and continued to be developed and improved through its demise in 2016, when the last Defender rolled off the assembly line tagged in England with the license plates H166 HUE, a reference to the first Land Rover Series I built, tagged 166 HUE.

This 1990 Defender 110 represents the last of the breed and arguably the best of the line. Powered by a 2.5L turbo-diesel engine with a 5-speed manual transmission, the 4-wheel drive vehicle is finished in an imposing dark gray with black trim and alloy wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. Fitted with skid plates, a roof rack with a step ladder, a rear-mounted full-size spare tire and nerf bars, this 110 is only lightly decked out, but it looks fantastic and leaves a lot of room for more accessories if one should choose. The interior is upholstered in black cloth with front sport bucket seats and an AM/FM stereo system.

Overhead windows let the outside in, at least visually, creating a wonderfully open sense that is a kind of signature with Land Rover vehicles.
