Perhaps the Ultimate 110 Defender, Ford 'Voodoo' V8-powered and dynamically uprated, this bespoke 4x4 has been designed and built to be absolutely special. Despite, or perhaps because of, being recognisably related (with the same charm and character) to the very first Land Rover of 1948, the Defender retained a steadfastly loyal customer base. Maybe the most significant development however was nothing to do with a change in the vehicle’s appearance or specification - it was the gradual adoption amongst trendy metropolitan elites as their carriage of choice, taking the Land Rover legend from the country into the city.

As such, it became popular with both cattle herders and yoga instructors alike, an expanding market that is now reflected in a replacement new-era Defender that’s as good carving through SW1 as it is up to its axles in mud. Production of the original (and arguably the best) Defender exceeded 2,000,000 examples before the model was discontinued by JLR in 2016 – but their loss was others' gain. It created a new market of marque specialists who, as well and servicing and preserving the Defender, set about creating bespoke, enhanced and adapted examples for a client base that truly value what the Defender represents.

Enter LOF of Leicestershire, a specialist Land Rover manufacturing business, run by a chap whose Land Rover knowledge is quite simply 'encyclopaedic'. Renowned for their engineering prowess, they manufacture and sell superb, uprated clutches, brakes and other components for Land Rovers. 'Attention to detail' dictate how they manufacture and this ethos is evident in the machine we have here. LOF set about creating the ultimate 110, going down the route of installing an American V8 engine. Many Land Rover tuners have done this, but to no greater effect than we see here - a 5.2-litre, naturally-aspirated V8 'Voodoo' engine from Ford.

Featuring a double overhead-cam design in a V configuration, this engine is hand-built and was specifically designed for the Shelby GT350 and GT350R. Contrary to the 5.2-litre Predator engine, with which it shares many components, the Voodoo engine utilises a flat plane crankshaft. This reduces the engine’s overall weight while allowing it to rev faster and higher. This unique configuration also gives the engine a distinctive exhaust note when compared with other American V8 engines, plus 526bhp at 7,500rpm and 429lbs/ft at 4,750rpm - serious figures. Burbling through an adjustable exhaust value system, it is as tuneful as you would want from such a special engine.

Around this, the rest of the vehicle was enhanced with specialist, high-quality products to create a super-powerful, yet very driveable high-performance 4x4. Properly designed, built, and tested - this is one hell of a Land Rover. The Defender 110 presented here is quite exceptional.

Starting life as a 2014-model TDCi Utility Station Wagon model with the four-cylinder, 2.4-litre Puma unit, it was treated to a complete ground-up rebuild, starting with a new galvanised chassis and enhanced with its colossal powerplant, a Ford 6R80 auto gearbox, rebuilt axles with LSDs, 380mm AP RACING brakes, 18" Lucari wheels, full Lucari interior with premium sports seats, a complete retrim, a Stinger 10.5" infotainment system and Bowler front bumper. Fully repainted in striking Firenze Red, probably the best Land Rover colour, this 4x4 looks as well as it goes!

With an amazing specification sheet (full details on request), an exemplary finish and attention to detail, this 110 offers presence and performance to rival that of the G63 AMG 'G-Wagon' or indeed Land Rover's own £150,000 Defender Works V8 70th Edition and we invite and encourage your close inspection at our Silverstone Festival sale.
