Chassis No.: 3456

Engine No.: 4150

Registration: 660UYF

Estimate: £150,000-£180,000

The Lancia Aurelia was first introduced at the Turin Motor Show of 1950. This innovative automotive creation included a narrow 60° all alloy, V6 engine (being the first production V6 car) that ranged from 1.8 litres to 2.5 litres over the life of the models’ six series. Drive was through the rear mounted transaxle that incorporated the gearbox, clutch, differential and inboard mounted drum brakes to reduce un-sprung weight. The sliding pillar front suspension was complemented at the rear by semi trailing arms. Come the 4th series and those trailing arms were replaced by a de Dion tube and the engine’s white metal bearings replaced with shell bearings.

Most Lancia motor cars up until 1955 were manufactured at the factory in righthand drive form; the series four cars started to see the addition of lefthand drive as these were the first cars to be imported into America in significant numbers. Clothed with a lightweight coupé body that not only gave the Aurelia GT sports car performance but saloon car practicality also. It soon became apparent that, with the fine chassis design and a smooth V6 power plant, the car lent itself for competition use with many period competition successes such as Le Mans, the Targa Florio, Mille Miglia, and the Monte Carlo Rally.

This outstanding Aurelia B20GT has a superb pedigree and excellent history. When approaching this Lancia, it is apparent that this is a fascinating car in all respects particularly design, condition and mechanics. Originally registered in Napoli in 1955, the vendor purchased the Lancia from its Italian owner in December 2013 with a view to entering the Mille Miglia. After registration on UK number plates, the Aurelia was issued a ‘Fiva Identity Card’ by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs. Confirmation of the first class history of this vehicle is documented on the identity card stating that it competed in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1987 and the 2009 Mille Miglia.

Indeed having just successfully completed the 2014 Mille Miglia with the vendor, as confirmed by the ‘seals’ on the steering column, the car is sure to attract attention from collectors and rally enthusiasts alike.

Offered for sale in full rally set-up and with all the necessary documentation and instrumentation to qualify for such events, we are advised 660UYF is also “an absolute delight” to drive on standard roads should you choose to do so. The coachwork of this Aurelia B20GT is in first class condition as is the interior trim. The 2451cc, V6 engine started immediately when requested and runs smoothly with a responsive throttle; the interior has a lovely period design to it with faultless ergonomics and is in splendid order throughout.

Without doubt, this handsome Lancia will create interest wherever she appears, whether that is by a riverside pub, the hills of Monte Carlo or the magical roads from Brescia to Rome and back again. Supplied with the original Italian registration documents, history file and UK documents.
