If the 350 GT announced Lamborghini’s arrival, the Miura declared total war on competing sports car marques, especially Ferrari. Arriving just a few years after Lamborghini’s first production model, the Miura overturned nearly every accepted idea of how an elite high-performance car should look, feel and perform, establishing the definitive blueprint for the modern supercar in the process. With its low-slung form, transversely mounted V-12, and stunning Bertone body designed by Marcello Gandini, the mid-engine Miura was not simply advanced—it was shocking.

Created by a remarkable team of young engineers, including Gian Paolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani, the Miura first appeared as a bare chassis at the 1965 Turin Motor Show before stunning the world in fully clothed form at Geneva in 1966. Its potent Lamborghini V-12 engine was initially developed by famed Italian engineer Giotto Bizzarrini, whose many prior credits included work on the Ferrari 250 SWB and 250 GTO. Named after the notoriously fierce fighting bulls of Don Eduardo Miura, the electrifying Lamborghini combined the latest race-bred engineering and breathtaking style and instantly became one of the defining cars of the 20th century.

Today, it remains every bit as historically significant as it is visually beautiful. This electrifying, late-production 1972 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV (Super Veloce) was delivered new in Italy with dry-sump lubrication and air conditioning. Bearing Chassis No. 5066, it is offered with just 1,517 kilometers at the time of writing. In addition to its ultimate “SV” specification, this Miura is the only example produced in Bleu Tahiti with gold accents over handsomely contrasting white leather upholstery.

The potent 3929cc/385 HP transverse-mounted DOHC alloy V-12 engine mounts four Weber 40 IDL3C twin-choke carburetors and delivers the power and performance through a 5-speed manual transmission and a gated shifter. The Miura’s advanced, 4-wheel independent wishbone suspension includes coil springs, tubular shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. Four-wheel Girling ventilated disc brakes reside behind the Miura’s Gold-finished Campagnolo three-ear knock-off wheels, mounting Pirelli CN12 Cinturato radial tires. Accents include rear window louvers and chrome exterior window trim.

Sporting a restoration completed by Italian specialist Cremonini Carrozzeria of Modena, Italy, this 1972 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV is a fabulous, ultimate-specification exemplar of the world’s first supercar.
