The Jaguar restoration specialists at Classic Showcase of Oceanside, California, are renowned the world over for their painstaking craftsmanship, a quality that is embodied in the company motto: “Where Great Cars Achieve Perfection.” That commitment to excellence is certainly demonstrated in the exquisite presentation of this magnificent 1957 Jaguar XK140 Roadster, one of approximately 2,028 produced during the model’s four-year run from 1954 through 1957.
In addition to important upgrades including more interior room, improved brakes, rack-and-pinion steering, increased suspension travel and telescopic shock absorbers, the XK140 could be ordered with a Special Equipment package that added a C-Type cylinder head, 2-inch sand-cast H8 racing carburetors, heavier torsion bars and twin exhaust pipes, resulting in markedly improved overall performance. Work began with stripping the body to bare metal, followed by careful fitting of the doors, bonnet and boot to the body, all of which were then epoxy-sealed before the expert application of the Pastel Blue paint.
New rubber, seals, grommets and gaskets were installed, and trim and brightwork was replaced or replated. Mechanical work was similarly extensive. The 3.4L inline-6 engine was rebuilt with new pistons, bearings and timing chain, and a high-volume oil pump. The SE Type C cylinder head was rebuilt with new valves, guides and seals. The rebuilt H8 sandcast carburetors are fed by a rebuilt fuel pump drawing from the restored and epoxy-sealed fuel tank. A new wiring harness, rebuilt electrical components and custom dual exhaust system with headers complete the engine ancillaries, while a 5-speed manual transmission, balanced driveshaft and rebuilt rear end finish off the drivetrain.
Chassis work included new adjustable front and rear shock absorbers, new brakes with neoprene bushings and new wide whitewall tires on new chromed wire wheels. The interior was beautifully restored as well with new leather seats, carpet, panels and dash, and it incorporates rebuilt gauges, knobs and switches; a two-tone bench seat is also included. A new convertible top installed over restored top bows completes the fabulous restoration of this old-world British motoring classic.
