In 1928, GMC took over the production of pickups and light delivery vehicles from Pontiac, and during the 1930s these used L-head powerplants from Pontiac and Oldsmobile, while larger trucks had overhead valve units from Buick. Some of the latter were developed in-house to much larger displacements, eventually reaching 707 cubic inches.

The year 1939 marked several turning points for GMC: synchro-mesh transmissions, diesel engines and a new overhead valve six for light trucks. The diesels were the new two-cycle Detroit Diesel designs, while the gasoline ohv six was akin to, but not identical to, that built by Chevrolet. This heavier duty six would become beloved of "Stovebolt" hot rodders, who nicknamed it "Jimmy," during the 1950s.

Offered here is a fine example of the AC 101 Panel Truck Model proudly bearing what would probably be its original commercial livery – Tri-Towne Collision. Commensurate with the rest of the collection, the truck was well preserved and quite importantly, not modified, nor hot-rodded. These trucks having not necessarily made it through the decades, or having been heavily modified, it is a pleasure to find such a genuine example.
