Commonly referred to as a Model A, or simply "The Ford V8", the first V8-equipped Ford is more accurately described as the Model 18. First seen in 1932, the 18 continued with tradition in several ways: it was offered in a variety of two and four-door body configurations, it continued styling themes set forth by Edsel and team with the Model A of 1927, and it upheld the senior Ford's steadfast ideals of affordability, simplicity, durability, and ease-of-use. The model at hand exemplifies the breed.
As denoted by a proud grille badge, this 1932 Deluxe Roadster won the highly prestigious National First Prize of the AACA sometime around its 61st birthday. The car presents beautifully throughout, sporting the iconic roadster bodywork that would later come to define the term "hot rod". This Deuce Ford, however, has most certainly not been chopped, channeled, or modified in any discernible way; the car displays factory-correct paint, brightwork, wood, and upholstery finishes and materials throughout.
The engine bay displays unique factory characteristics such as the doubled-up generator and cooling fan unit, dual water pumps, cloth spark plug wires, Detroit Lubricator carburetor, and distinct pistachio green finish on its 21-stud flat heads. Ford's famous Art Deco style V8 logos adorn the car's nose and hubcaps, leaving no doubt as to what's under the car's split piano-hinged hood. Upholstery, the folding top, and all other visible materials are also accurate to the car's original factory specification.
