Among those engines was the beefy 429 Cobra Jet, as fitted to this 1970 Torino GT Convertible offered from the Golden State Muscle Car Collection. Rated at 370bhp, the engine produced a mighty 450 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to obliterate the rear tires of the big Torino and ensure effortless progress – so long as the gas stations weren't too far apart!
As denoted in the chassis number, this is a factory C-Code Torino GT Convertible, powered by the 429CJ with a C-6 'Select Shift' automatic transmission. It is finished in the wonderful original color scheme of Ivy Green Metallic over a Ginger interior, which gives it an understated look with just the right balance of toughness. Options include power brakes with discs up front, power steering, Traction-Lock rear differential, tinted glass, styled steel wheels, and hideaway headlights. A copy of the original invoice shows it was delivered new via Parkside Ford Sales, Ltd, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, coming in at a not-insignificant sticker price of 5183.40 CAD.
Since joining the Golden State Muscle Car Collection in 2005, this beautiful Torino GT has been very well preserved, with a high degree of originality and authenticity. With understated good looks and mighty 429 Cobra Jet under the hood, it is a rare and appealing bit of Ford full-size muscle that is sure to garner plenty of attention wherever it takes you.
