At the Miami Auto Show on November 5, 2004, Ford debuted a new Special Edition Ford Thunderbird in honor of the 50th anniversary of America’s original “personal luxury car.” The first was built on January 3, 2005, and only 1,500 were produced in all, with the majority being delivered to their original owners in early 2005.
The 50th Anniversary Thunderbirds were all finished in tri-color Cashmere metallic paint and had a matching removable hardtop and Medium Light Stone cloth convertible top and soft boot. The full leather interior and wheels were color-coordinated to match, with special insignias embossed on the seatbacks below the Thunderbird logo, and a steering wheel and shift knob were trimmed with high-gloss Cashmere accents.
The car offered here is likely one of the few “new” 50th Anniversary Thunderbirds still available. At the time of cataloguing, it has recorded only 68 actual miles and still has the “new car smell.” The tonneau for the soft-top and the stand for the hardtop have never been used, and they are still wrapped in their factory plastic. As would be expected, fit, finish, and detailing throughout are all exactly as one would have seen on a car in the showroom nearly 10 years ago.
This car would be a wonderful complement to any 1955 Thunderbird in an owner’s collection, or it would be the perfect toy to “take out of the box.” This handsome car marks the second chance for someone to buy a 50th Anniversary T-Bird that is just as it was when the factory finished it.
