Signed by Richard Petty, this is Build No. 2 of 14 total King Premier Edition Mustang convertibles built by Richard Petty’s Garage, the in-house speed shop of NASCAR legend Richard “The King” Petty. These limited-edition Petty Mustang GTs are serialized for exclusivity and verification, and they’re powered by a 5.0L V-8 engine that’s been modified with a supercharger, a cold air intake system and a Magnaflow quad exhaust. Initial output is 670 HP, however an optional modification to the supercharger will generate a whopping 727 HP.
Each is fitted with extreme-duty TrakPak Ford Performance halfshafts, three-way adjustable front and rear sway bars and a rear axle upgrade, while the bodies are modified with a custom rear diffuser with a Richard Petty-designed center-mounted exhaust, a modified rear spoiler, a custom Petty Blue shift knob with a short-throw action, special sill plates, embroidered headrests and custom floor mats. The King Premier Editions also benefit from a 6-piston front and 4-piston rear Wilwood brake upgrade with Petty Blue-colored calipers and 20-inch HRE Performance wheels finished in matte black and Petty Blue and wrapped with Continental tires.
This 2016 King Premier Edition is fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission controlled via short-throw shifter, a Shaker stereo system, power windows, power locks, power mirrors and power-adjustable, heated and ventilated, leather/Alcantara-upholstered bucket seats. The black exterior is highlighted by a custom tri-color stripe in Petty Blue, red and white. The unique stripe was created by Petty’s Garage and BASF and is covered in crushed and tumbled glass in a clear coat. Even the Petty Blue body cladding is finished in the special crushed and tumbled glass paint. A power-operated black convertible top and a black interior round out the image.
