With the fabled Mustang body now legal for competition, Roush Fenway Racing Chassis No. RK-654 became unique when Ricky Stenhouse Jr. won his first Nationwide Series event at Iowa Speedway on May 22, 2011. Stenhouse outdueled Brad Keselowski and Roush Fenway Racing teammate Carl Edwards for the win, swapping the lead with Edwards eight times. He would go the distance to garner both the 2011 Nationwide Series Owners’ and Drivers’ Championships for Roush Fenway Racing. Always a thoroughbred, the car still hosts its Roush Yates FR9 Carb 358 CI Ford V-8 engine with dry-sump oiling, braided lines and MSD ignition.
A 4-speed manual transmission is behind it, while the Mustang body features No. 6 Blackwell Angus livery done in black with flames. Inside is a cage, the ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems racing seat using a Willans racing harness, in-dash AutoMeter gauges, a column-mounted SpekPro tachometer and a fire suppression system. The car also features racing suspension pieces, disc brakes with slotted rotors on all four corners, and 15-inch black race wheels hosting Goodyear Eagle radial race tires.
