This red-on-red 1969 Mustang Mach 1 has been rotisserie restored to factory specifications, including a rebuild of the 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air engine with the functional Shaker scoop that pokes through the hood to tilt and vibrate with the torque of the 335 HP big-block. Options include the C6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission, AM radio, power front disc brakes and chrome Magnum 500 wheels. Finished in the original color combination of T5 Candy Apple Red with gold side stripes and a red interior, the Mach 1 features a highly detailed engine compartment with chrome valve covers, factory emissions equipment and correct hoses and clamps.
Created as a performance-image model for the freshly restyled and more muscular-looking 1969 Mustang, the Mach 1 package added blackout hood paint, hood scoop and racing clik-pins, reflective side and trunk stripes, quad exhaust tips for the dual exhaust, color-keyed racing mirrors and a pop-open gas cap, along with Competition Suspension and a unique Mach 1 interior with high-back bucket seats, wood-grain trim and console. Created as an affordable performance package, the Mach 1’s standard powerplant was the 351. However, the optional 428 Cobra Jet bolstered the speed-of-sound image, especially the R-code version with the Shaker scoop that funneled cooler outside air into the carburetor.
With low-riser 427 heads, a GT camshaft and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, the 428 Cobra Jet packed plenty of punch with its low-speed torque and high-RPM horsepower. The Mach 1 was a sales success for Ford, as more than 72,000 were sold for 1969. However, just 12,113 were powered by the 428 Cobra Jet, according to the 428 Cobra Jet Registry. The Marti Report and window sticker are included with the sale of this 1969 Cobra Jet-powered Mach 1 Mustang.
