The 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Sunliner convertible was touted as “Ford’s contribution to sunshine living, and a favorite convertible everywhere.” Along with inspiration from the 1955 Mystere show car, the lower, bigger and more powerful Fairlane 500 drew on the contemporary Thunderbird’s styling features, most notably in its quad headlights, trapezoid grille, imitation hood scoop and oblong tail lights. The convertible Sunliner was one of the glamour queens of its day, especially fully dressed models like the example offered here completely restored in sunny Azure Blue with matching Blue and White interior and power-operated White soft top.
Driven by a 332 CI Police Interceptor with automatic transmission, Master Guide power steering and power brakes, this Sunliner comes with the full dress treatment that includes chromed wire wheels with wide whitewall tires, bright lower stone guards, dual outside mirrors, chromed wind deflectors and chromed headlight shades.
