Retaining its original registration number, linked to its very first keeper, this Mk2 Mexico has an extraordinary family history, being rediscovered after 25 years in storage, and has been preserved with care. First introduced in 1975, the Mk2 Escort RS Mexico was built at Saarlouis, West Germany until 1978, with around 2,500 believed to have been produced during this short run. Registered in April 1977, this example carries its original registration number, SUE 108R, derived from the name of the first keeper’s wife, and is today owned by the son of a previous keeper after being rediscovered following 25 years in storage.
Finished in its original Diamond White with remedial paintwork carried out fairly recently, retaining its period interior trim and factory correct black vinyl roof. Powered by its matching numbers 1,593cc SOHC Pinto engine with twin-choke carburettor, coupled to a manual gearbox, recently rebuilt and rolling road set to its factory output of 96bhp. To enhance the driving experience the Escort is fitted with a 'quick' steering rack, roller bearing top mounts and a Quaife limited-slip differential, with the car having been preserved rather than restored, benefiting from a period Waxoyl treatment and recent mechanical attention.
Purchased by our vendor for sentimental reasons, it has been subject to some recommissioning over recent years and has not been in regular use. The odometer (which read zero at the time of purchase) will need reconnecting. Supplied with historic V5Cs, the original 1977 Ford RS brochure, receipts for parts dating back to the early 1980s, a copy of the sale receipt for SUE from 1986, and paperwork from the current ownership. A rare opportunity to acquire a Mexico with such strong provenance and family continuity, ready to be enjoyed and cherished by its next custodian.
