On June 10, 1948 Ford introduced their 1949 models to the public at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The new 1949 Fords marked the first completely new cars offered by Ford following World War II. Ford was the first of the “Big Three” to display their all-new postwar offering, which allowed Ford to garner a significant amount of press surrounding their 1949 models. The 1949 Custom series was offered in five body styles: four-door sedan, two-door sedan, two-door club coupe, two-door convertible and two-door station wagon, all of which offered seating for six passengers.

This 1949 Custom Convertible is presented in yellow with a black canvas convertible power top. The car rides on Firestone Deluxe Champion whitewall tires mounted on maroon wheels with Ford lettered wheel covers. The car is powered by a flathead V-8 engine with oil filter. The car features a column-shift three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The interior is tan and features an AM radio, clock and heater. Ford advertising from the day describes the interior as, “A living room on wheels!” Exterior accessories include foglights, dual spotlights, bumper guards, and color matched rear fender skirts. The trunk houses a spare tire and tire tool.
