Only the elder Bronco offers the original Ford V-8 all-terrain experience, and this 1973 has traveled fewer than 400 miles since its ground up restoration in 2019. Faithful attention to factory detail reinstated classic first-generation style, and a selection of upgrades brought improvements in capability and comfort. A crankshaft to valve rocker rebuild brought the date-correct 302 CI V-8 back to fantastic condition, and a 3-speed manual transmission puts power down to the ground. Chrome valve covers and a heavy-duty aluminum radiator with fan shroud keep the small-block looking and running cool.
Bilstein shocks and a 2.5-inch Wild Horses suspension lift kit augments Ford's famously rugged Mono-Beam front suspension. The U100 body shell was stripped down to its matching door and rear quarter panels and then refinished with 1973-correct Candyapple Red paint topped with new brightwork. Dynamat sound deadening material from the Wimbledon White top to the floors quiet down the ride, and Saddle Brown leather upholstery on the factory original seat frames offer a comfort upgrade. The steering wheel, power disc brakes and power steering team up for maneuverability and slope-hugging stability.
What looks like a factory-issue radio is a Bluetooth-enabled RetroSound stereo system, meaning "Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter Group will sound better than it did in 1973. The restored and improved Bronco is rearing to tame most any terrain on original steel wheels and BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A K02 tires with a matching spare on the Swing-Away carrier.
