In the spring of 1960, FIAT added a Giardiniera (gardener) estate car to its Nuova 500 range. Built on a longer wheelbase than the saloon, the Giardiniera featured a single side-hinged rear door and carried its engine horizontally beneath the rear load platform, thus increasing luggage space. Testing a Giardiniera in 1961, Autocar was mightily impressed; the miniature station wagon was found capable of carrying four adults and 127kg of luggage (alternatively, one adult and 200kg) while returning exceptional fuel economy, while the maximum speed achieved was exactly 60mph (96.5km/h). From the spring of 1968, Giardiniera production was transferred to FIAT's partner Autobianchi, finally ceasing in 1977.

Registered in the Sicilian province of Caltanissetta, this charming Giardiniera is believed to have remained in sunny Sicily for most of its life before being purchased by the current vendor earlier this year. Finished in its original colour of bianco with a contrasting black vinyl interior, it has recently benefited from the installation of new bumpers and a new fuel tank. On a recent short test-drive, the car started and performed very well and is sure to put a smile on the fortunate new owner's face. Offered with Italian registration documents.

• Immatriculée en Italie Au printemps 1960, Fiat ajouta un break Giardiniera (jardinière) à sa gamme Nuova 500. Construit sur un empattement plus long que la berline, la Giardiniera était dotée d'une porte à l'arrière et d'un moteur disposé horizontalement sous la plate-forme de chargement, afin d'accroitre l'espace voué aux marchandises transportés. Au cours d'un essai de la Giardiniera en 1961, Autocar avait été très impressionné, ce break miniature s'était avéré capable de transporter quatre adultes et 127 kg de bagage (ou encore, un adulte et 200 kg) avec une consommation très basse et une vitesse de pointe mesurée de 96,5 km/h exactement. À partir du printemps 1968, la production de la Giardiniera fut transférée à la filiale de Fiat Autobianchi, et prit fin en 1977.

Immatriculée en Sicile à Caltanissetta, on pense que cette charmante Giardiniera a passé la majeure partie de sa vie sous le soleil sicilien, avant d'être achetée par le vendeur au début de l'année. Dans ses couleurs originales, bianco avec intérieur en vinyl noir contrastant, elle a récemment reçu des pare-chocs neufs et un nouveau réservoir. Lors d'un récent essai, la voiture a démarré et a parfaitement fonctionné et ravira son futur propriétaire. Vendue avec ses papiers d'immatriculation italienne.
