As a result of the success derived from Ghia’s modification of a number of Fiat 600s into Jolly models, the firm doubled down by sending a number of 500s for the same type of conversion. This special run of 500s was produced in a limited quantity and cost nearly twice as much as the standard model.

This example was treated to a meticulous body-off restoration which included stripping the body down to bare metal and repairing or fabricating new panels as necessary. A corrosion inhibitor epoxy was applied to the entire body inside and out with meticulous prep before the final factory color of Celeste Mediopaint was applied. Every single piece of chrome was either re-plated or replaced, all aluminum was straightened and polished, all rubber gaskets and seals were renewed, and new emblems were installed. Other cosmetic work was just as meticulous, with the seats restored by stripping, repairing and painting, followed by reweaving by a professional wicker weaver, who also applied his craft to the front dash bar. The top frame was rebuilt and had a new canvas top installed.

The engine was professionally rebuilt and is augmented by a fully refurbished brake system and fuel system which included acid washing and lining of the gas tank. All ancillary engine components were replaced or rebuilt, the transmission was opened and inspected with all fluids replaced, and a new exhaust system was installed. The clutch was rebuilt, as were the steering and suspension, which included new CV boots and output seal, and the wheels were shod with new Pirelli tires.

In the last decade the popularity of micro cars has gained traction, and they are now quite sought after by a large segment of the collecting community. Close inspection of this car will reveal to the trained eye the high level of attention to detail and craftsmanship employed in its refurbishment.
