The SF90's power train consists of a mid-mounted 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 762bhp (a development of the F8 Tributo's 3.9-litre unit but with an additional 59bhp) and three electric motors: one for each front wheel providing torque vectoring, and another mounted between the engine and the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, which drives all four wheels. Reverse is courtesy of the electric propulsion, there being no such gear in the eight-speed transmission. Electric power is provided by a 7.9kWh battery.
The start-up default setting is electric only, which means a virtually silent take off, so if you want to hear the roar of that four-cam V8 either the Performance or Qualifying mode must be selected first. Car magazine: "Switch to Hybrid mode and the SF90 switches effortlessly between its power sources and spends a surprising amount of time as an EV. The integration is genuinely impressive, as is the brake feel, which is far more natural than on most hybrid or electric cars." In Performance mode the SF90 can reach 100km/h in 2.5 seconds and 200km/h in 6.7 on its way to a top speed of 340km/h (211mph). Torque distribution to the four wheels is governed by Ferrari's eSSC (electric Side Slip Control) system, which works with the eTC (electric Traction Control).
The chassis is composed of aluminium and carbon fibre, and the SF90 weighs in at 1,570kg (dry), some 270kg of that accounted for by the electric propulsion system. The body's shark-like front end is one of the most dramatic-looking there is, while at the rear there is an F1-inspired drag reduction system (DRS), the moving elements being controlled by electric motors. A 16" TFT curved dashboard display keeps the driver informed of the state of the various systems, with many of the associated controls being mounted on the steering wheel, including the manettino.
Car summed up the SF90 thus: "But it's engineering like this that's going to ensure the survival of the supercar when laws, and even the mindset of some owners, are changing to reflect a greater concern for the environment. Fortunately, that's not the only reason to love the fastest, most exploitable road-going Ferrari ever built."
This particular SF90
Stradale
was delivered new to Germany and is finished in Grigio Scuro with black leather interior, the latter featuring contrasting yellow stitching and carbon fibre bucket seats. A deliver-mileage car (under 100km from new), it comes with all manuals, Certificate of Conformity, tool kit, battery charger, tyre inflator, two keys, and an original car cover. There is a Dubai ownership certificate but the car has never been registered.
Beautifully presented, this gorgeous SF90 represents an affordable opportunity to out-perform almost every road car above this price point, while still enjoying Ferrari heritage, comfort, and service.
