At the 2008 Paris Motor Show, Ferrari debuted what it called a modern interpretation of the famed ’60s “California” spider. Designed to be a more day-to-day, livable grand tourer, the new California featured elegant styling by Pininfarina and was available as either a 2+2 or 2+2 GT convertible. The California ushered in a new era for Ferrari, offering customers a slew of features that were a first for the Ferrari brand, including modular architecture, an automated folding hard top, multi-link rear suspension, direct gas injection and a front-mounted V-8 engine backed by the new dual-clutch, automated, 7-speed transaxle.
The California was designed to be a true GT, a luxurious performance car that could be driven comfortably on a day-to-day basis, a stark contrast to Ferrari’s contemporary offerings, which were often harsh, racing machines for the road. In 2014, Ferrari refreshed the California model with the release of the California T, which now boasted a revised chassis and styling, as well as a 3.9L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine producing 552 HP. The example on offer is a one-of-a-kind 70th Anniversary Edition California T, custom built under Ferrari’s “Tailor Made” program.
Taking its inspiration from the 1965 275 GTB Competizione, this California T is the only one of the 70 Anniversary Edition examples finished in Grigio Ferro metallic paint, with Scuderia shields, Grigio Scuro special stitching in the leather interior and Grigio Scuro prancing horses stitched onto the headrests adding to its visual appeal. With only 49 miles on the odometer and rolling on 20-inch diamond-forged wheels, this bespoke Ferrari also features the HSHS Special handling package, HELE High Emotion, Low Emission system and U.S. visibility equipment.
Inside the Ferrari, the leather headliner is complemented by the simulated wood-grain console and door-panel accents, as well as the aluminum driver and passenger foot rests; a white-faced rev counter helps the driver keep an eye on engine vitals. This 2018 California T presents a unique opportunity to acquire a truly unique modern Ferrari.
