Officially announced at the 2010 Paris show, the 599 SA Aperta advanced Ferrari’s limited-edition, open-air V-12 grand touring lineage. Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Pininfarina, Ferrari’s long-time design and coachbuilding collaborator, the “SA” honored the career achievements of Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina. Just 80 examples were planned, with the entire production run already spoken for by the time it debuted at Paris. Based on the hardcore 599 GTO, the SA Aperta—“Aperta” translated as “Open”—featured a more steeply raked windscreen, discreet roll bars and buttresses just behind the cockpit. The 599 SA Aperta chassis was stiffened and with only a modest weight penalty.
A light emergency soft top was included, and a wide array of available color and trim combinations ensured every 599 SA Aperta reflected its buyer’s specific tastes, with few, if any, identical. Performance remains stunning with excellent balance and handling enhanced by Ferrari’s magnetorheological suspension system. With a factory-rated 661 HP on tap from its 6.0L V-12 engine, equipped with an SA-specific exhaust system, the 599 SA Aperta is capable of 0-62 MPH acceleration in 3.35 seconds and 208 MPH flat out.
