From 1951 to 1960, 62 custom-bodied Ferraris were named America or Superamerica, the Super prefix reserved for specially modified models with extra power. In 2005 Ferrari dusted off that tradition to bestow the honor upon the 575 Superamerica, first unveiled by Ferrari in the principality of Monaco and then at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show. More than a 575 with a soft top, the Superamerica featured an ingenious solution in the form of the so-called Revochromico, a single panel combining a carbon fiber frame with electrochromatic glass, the first of its kind on a production vehicle and the first use of a folding hardtop in a Ferrari.
In the closed position, the driver can adjust the Revochromino’s transparency through five levels from almost clear to very dark Blue, simply by turning a knob on the center console. And rather than intruding into the ample luggage space, the panel simply flips backward into a depression in the rear deck. To warrant the Superamerica moniker, Ferrari boosted the 575’s horsepower from 508 to 532 at 7,250 RPM. Only 559 of these fabulous Ferraris were built, and just 170 made it to the U.S. market, making the Superamerica very exclusive indeed.
Showing just 11,455 miles, the 2005 Ferrari 575 Superamerica offered here presents in traditional Rosso Corsa with a Black leather interior featuring Daytona-style seats and carbon fiber trim. Its V-12 engine is backed by Ferrari’s famed F1 paddle-shift automatic transmission. Serviced at Cauley Ferrari in Bloomfield, Michigan, its factory options include Red brake calipers, Scuderia Ferrari cloisonné shields, rear wall leather upholstery, battery charging pre-wiring and high-powered high fidelity stereo system with 6-disc CD changer.
This rare Superamerica is offered with the original window sticker, books, three remotes, two keys, car cover, battery charger and warranty books stamped by Cauley Ferrari.
