Introduced at the 1999 Geneva Auto Salon, the Ferrari 360 Modena was a clean-sheet design created to succeed the highly successful F355. Replacing the second-best-selling Ferrari in the company’s history necessitated a radical departure from Ferrari classicism, but the ensuing result was a car bristling with technical innovations, wrapped in voluptuous aluminum coachwork refined by extensive Pininfarina wind tunnel testing and bristling with 400 HP from the midmounted 3.6L V-8 on display beneath a clear glass rear deck insert. As if all that wasn’t alluring enough, in 2000 Ferrari introduced the spider version for those whose tastes ran to open-air motoring.

The 20th production convertible in Ferrari history, the 360 spider retained the closed version’s mechanicals and see-through engine cover. Its power-operated convertible top stowed beneath a sculpted tonneau in 20 seconds, revealing a roomy two-place cockpit of unimpeachable quality and finish, as can be seen in this 2002 example that was issued from Maranello with an original MSRP of $185,720.

It’s powered by the DOHC, dry sump 3.6L/400 HP V-8 engine backed by Ferrari’s outstanding F1 automatic gearbox, and its elegant Grigio Ingrid exterior finish is complemented with a power-operated blue convertible top over a handsome Blu Scuro leather interior featuring power bucket seats, a contrasting upper dash, air conditioning and a Becker AM/FM stereo system with six-CD changer. Recently upgraded with new BF Goodrich g-Force Comp 2 tires, this 360 Spider also includes a tool kit, a car cover, an aluminum security key and a battery tender.

The accompanying documentation includes the original window sticker and bill of sale, a Ferrari parts manual and the original Becker stereo serial code. The car that launched the Maranello automaker into the 21st century, the Ferrari 360 in spider form has enjoyed lasting appeal that will only continue to grow.
