The Ferrari 360 was introduced in 1999 replacing the popular F355. Working with Alcoa Aluminum, Ferrari developed an entirely new aluminum space frame chassis that was about 40 percent stiffer and nearly 30 percent lighter in spite of being a larger car overall. In honor of Enzo's birthplace, the car was called 360 Modena, and was a drastic departure from Ferraris prior. Designed by Pininfarina, it used gently curving and rounded elements to define its body instead of curves with creases, covered headlights instead of flip-up units, and the flying buttress rear deck gave way to a true fastback design with a clear cover providing better rear visibility.
It also allowed people to see the engine. When the Spider was introduced, nearly two years later, it was one of Ferraris finest open-top cars to date. From the onset, 360 had been engineered with a Spider in mind, and was therefore engineered with stronger sills, stiffer front floorpans, windscreen, rear bulkhead, side reinforcements, and a cross brace at the front of the engine. Passenger safety was greatly enhanced in many ways, and yet, 360 weighed less than 3,000 pounds. Both 360s are powered by a 3.6L/400 HP V-8 engine mated to a 6-speed manual with a gated shifter or F1 style paddle gearbox capable of propelling the car to 60 in about 4.3 seconds.
This Ferrari 360 Spider features the F1 style transmission and has benefited from a timing belt maintenance, newer brakes, belts, and fluids. The premium wheels are wrapped in newer tires, and passengers will enjoy an upgraded sound system. The factory cover and unused tool kit will be included with the car.
