Named after Enzo Ferrari’s historic birthplace, the Ferrari 360 Modena was clearly inspired by the storied 250 LM, but it was packed with innovations that instilled in it a level of performance that surpassed even that legendary machine, and in a car that was ideally suited to traditional grand touring. Ferrari engineers collaborated with Alcoa Co. to create the 360 Modena’s extremely rigid but lightweight all-aluminum body structure, which boasts torsional stiffness far in excess of the F355.

Forged-aluminum components form the Modena’s double-wishbone independent suspension that uses additional toe-in links at the rear for more precise cornering, and 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance tires allow room for the Modena’s 13-inch disc brakes. The 360 Modena’s roomy, leather-lined cockpit beckons with an adjustable steering wheel, full instrumentation, air conditioning, premium sound, aluminum accents and typically superb seats perfectly suited to extended drives.

Extensive wind-tunnel development went into sculpting the Modena’s wind-cheating yet muscular shape, its extended tail accommodating one of the earliest examples of a rear diffuser in a road car—one that was effective enough that no extra spoilers or dams were required to plant the car to the pavement at speed. The Modena’s F355-derived 3.6L/400 HP twin-cam V-8 engine incorporates a flat-plane crank for excellent response and internal balance with the added benefit of a banshee-like exhaust note at its 8,500 RPM redline.

Rather than a significant horsepower increase, it was tuned for broader torque and improved drivability with either the 6-speed manual or the paddle-shifted F1 semiautomatic gearbox found in this very attractive and well-maintained three-owner example, which complements its Tour de France Blue Metallic paint with chromed alloy wheels and a sharp Saddle interior. The recipient of an extensive service with receipts totaling more than $11,000, this 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena has been driven only 20,919 miles and is offered with manuals, tools and a clean CarFax.
