In 1994, Ferrari added a convertible to the GTB coupe and GTS targa models in its 348 lineup, and this 1995 Ferrari 348 Spider is one of 1,090 of its kind produced in the final model year. With just 8,570 original miles on the odometer, the Spider represents the culmination of 348 design and performance evolution. The mid-engine 348 made its debut in 1989 as the last Ferrari developed under the guidance of Enzo Ferrari before his death in 1988. Refinements in 1993 brought improved performance and reliability before the 348 line was succeeded by the F355 in 1995.
The 348 marked a departure from its transverse-engined 328 predecessor with a longitudinally mounted V-8 mated to a transverse 5-speed manual gearbox. Quad camshafts, four valves per cylinder, dry-sump oiling and Bosch electronic engine management worked together to channel 320 HP through a self-locking differential and rear wheels. Independent unequal-length wishbone suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes deliver Ferrari-level road control. The 348 could launch from 0-60 MPH in 5.6 seconds, run a low 14-second quarter mile and had a factory-rated top speed of more than 170 MPH. Form meets function in the Pininfarina-designed steel and aluminum body.
Aerodynamic side strakes channel cooling air to the side-mounted radiators and oil coolers with signature Testarossa and F40 mid-engine Ferrari style. Lowering the tan canvas soft convertible top reveals a cockpit finished in hand-stitched tan Connolly leather over lush tan carpet with 348-logo machined-aluminum passenger footrest, power windows and locks. A leather-wrapped factory Momo steering wheel, machined-and-drilled aluminum control pedals and gated shifter wait for a new driver to command this 1995 Ferrari 348 Spider over the road or track.
