French registration title In 1989, Dodge, Chrysler’s sports car division, presented a Concept Car : in fact, it was Chrysler boss Bob Lutz who discussed the project for a sports roadster with... Carroll Shelby! The name used was more than evocative: “Viper”, in reference to the Shelby Cobra, the most striking American sports car of the 1960s. Given its success, it was quickly decided to produce a production version.

The production model was designed in collaboration with Lamborghini, then part of the Chrysler Group. In 1991, a factory was specially equipped in Detroit for the first version, the RT/10, of which only 285 were produced. A handful were imported into France, most of them red. The recipe was unique for the period: an 8-litre, 400 hp V10 coupled to a tubular steel chassis, a fibreglass body and a 6-speed manual gearbox, with no assistance (no traction control, no ABS) and no airbags...

The car we are presenting was bought and imported new in 1995 from Canada (yellow was not available in France) by the first and only owner. Over the course of their thirty-odd years together, this enthusiast drove the car for almost 83,000 km, while maintaining it regularly and continuously (file available on request).

During our test drive, we found that the car ran well, with no abnormal noises. If the driver is rather reckless, the V10 sings perfectly at high revs! Overall, the car is in fairly good condition, with the patina of an original car: the bodywork bears a few minor scars.

The car also comes complete with windows, tonneau cover and hard top!
