With its wild twin-nostril grille and integrated front bumper, the 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T is one of the most distinctive-looking muscle cars of the era. It’s virtually impossible to mistake the ’70 R/T for anything else. Mechanically similar to its Coronet sibling, the Super Bee, the R/T was equipped with more comfort and appearance features, including a deluxe all-vinyl interior, bucket seats and a center console. Exterior extras included power bulge hood and matching trim scoops on the rear quarter panels with red-on-chrome R/T badging. Like all Dodge muscle cars, the Coronet R/T offered a long list of hardcore performance hardware.

Standard equipment was the 440 Magnum V-8 with 375 horsepower and a choice of 4-speed manual transmission or Torqueflite 3-speed automatic. This Dodge Coronet R/T was ordered as a dealer promotional car in Redding, California. Built in Michigan and shipped directly to the dealer's showroom. With the Plum Crazy paint, and the white vinyl top and white interior, it didn't take long for a local bank executive to fall in love. After only a year, he went back to the dealership and traded it in for a more conservative car. Shortly the R/T was purchased by Carl Borbas of Redding, California. He drove the car for a year before being drafted into the Army. He served 6 years.

When he returned home in the Spring of 1977, Carl used the car on weekends and local racing events, until the Spring of 1979. At that time, he removed the engine and stored the car in a barn until he could rebuild the 440 engine. But that never happened, and the car sat for over 35 years in a barn, until we purchased the it from Carl in the fall of 2012. Since then, over a 3-year restoration process was begun, while always attempting to retain the R/T originality. The car is an exceptional 29,000-mile car. It retains the original body panels.

The engine was rebuilt, the white vinyl interior and roof restored, while still retaining as many original parts such as door panels, dash pad and glass. This 70 Coronet is, one of the rarest Dodge muscle Mopars, with air conditioning, the much sought after combination of the Plum Crazy color, white vinyl top, interior, and tail stripe. This is a stunning example of a rare breed, which only a limited number were built and will be the highlight of any car collection. This Coronet with distinctive grill, is an unmistakable center of attention.
