If you want to be a player, you must “bring game,” as they say, and this rebuilt 1970 Dodge Coronet has been on a serious diet of speed steroids and custom details for that reason, the result being a purpose-focused refreshment completed by JB Customs. If it looks familiar, this Dodge was featured in the December 2010 issue of Mopar Action Magazine. Model year 1970 was the final year the Coronet model was offered in two-door performance trim, as the brand placed its hotter B-body efforts solely on the refreshed Charger body in 1971. Under the hood here is a stroked RB-series engine: a 440 CI V-8 block now rebuilt to 535 CI.

Changes here include a set of Mopar aluminum heads, a Comp Cams solid-lifter camshaft, serpentine belt-driven accessories, MSD ignition components and polished details. A custom air box and K&N air filter bring fresh air in from a Six Pack-type scoop to a Holley 4-barrel carb, with Jet Hot-coated headers feeding dual exhaust taking it out back. This is now backed by a modified automatic transmission in a factory A727 case built by Cope Racing. The car’s stock 8.75-inch rear end housing is equipped with Strange 31-spline axles, as well as a Panhard bar and Cal-Tracs springs.

The blasted and powdercoated suspension features polyurethane bushings plus adjustable shocks and an upgraded 1-inch sway bar. Wilwood front disc brakes with drilled rotors and larger rear drums with a lockout proportioning valve slow it down. The color selected is Antifreeze Green with Gold Pearl striping and one-off graphics. Inside is a custom dash with toggles and aftermarket gauges, bucket seats with a console, a Mopar steering wheel and a 12-point roll cage. The final touches are custom Stockton steel wheels finished in green with painted inlays and blackwall tires. This car has its original VIN and fender tags intact, and it has been personally signed by Don Garlits.

A show winner of Mopar Nationals 2009, this unique Coronet looks ready to go for those who intend to “bring game.”
