The King Daytona’s heritage is unique. A Los Angeles-area Dodge franchise gave “Big Willie” Robinson of the Brotherhood of Street Racers a new 1969 Hemi Dodge Charger Daytona. Though that car is long known as having been destroyed, Dodge saw fit to honor the man and his legacy with a limited run of just 300 “new King Daytonas” based on the 2023 Widebody SRT Hellcat Redeye Charger. This particular Last Call edition now shows 323 miles on its odometer. Moreover, Dodge has this King ruling with extra horsepower, as its 6.2L V-8 boasts 807 ponies, 10 more than standard. This includes all the stuff to make a royal statement, such as the factory intercooler and low-profile supercharger systems.
Behind it, the 8-speed automatic features paddle-shift capabilities. There is also the Line lock launch control and an adaptive active Widebody competition suspension with big Brembo disc brakes and body-color SRT calipers to slow it down. Like the original 1969 version, the new King dresses well, now with Go Mango exterior paint. Though the integrated deck spoiler might not equal the height of the 1969 example, the power sunroof is a great addition.
Meanwhile, the interior is quite fit for a king as well – Nappa leather and Alcantara bucket seats in black with orange accents, a suede headliner, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with control buttons, Harman Kardon Audio Group, Auto-Stick shifter in the console, and no-nonsense pedal brightwork. On this example’s Customer Preferred Package 27Z, included are the Redeye instrument panel badge, 220 MPH speedometer and SRT Power Chiller. This car has the ParkSense rear park assist and the Dodge clean air system as well. The outside décor includes exclusive King Daytona side graphics, hood pins, scooped styled hood, widebody integrated aero enhancements and dual exhaust tips.
The car rides on the 20×11-inch Satin Carbon Warp Speed wheels with low-profile radial tires. While the legend is gone, the heritage of what that first King Daytona stood for is the reason for this Last Call. As presented here, it is King, indeed.
