This 1970 Charger R/T has been examined by the experts, including Dave Wise and the late James Shield, and has been verified as being coded as an E87 V-code 440 Six Pack car built in St. Louis. The mystifying element here is that this Charger is possibly the only V-code example featuring both factory air conditioning and cruise control. Hailing from the Charger’s final season in this popular body styling, this example’s documented one-off equipment adds to its appeal.
The car appeared in Mopar Collector’s Guide magazine back in 2014 when it was still in its worn, as-found condition, and has since been given a rotisserie restoration back to its “original factory mis-stamped” fender-tag specifications. This includes a replacement 440 Six Pack engine with the previously noted accessories, as well as H-pipe exhaust, an A727 Torqueflite automatic transmission, the 8 3/4 differential, power steering and power brakes. Documented by an accompanying Dave Wise Report and the original fender tag, the car’s original sheet metal (with the body VINs still intact) was returned to its factory FJ5 Sublime Green Hi-Impact paint.
The C6XA interior is black and hosts front bucket seats with the C16 console, factory controls for the air conditioning and cruise control, Tic-Toc-Tac, wood-grain trim and a sport steering wheel. Highlighting the hot exterior paint are the 1970 R/T-only door scoops, flip-open gas cap, chrome exhaust tips, covered headlamps, the wrap-around V6X rear scat stripe in black, and 15-inch Rallye wheels with Firestone Wide Oval tires. The jack and Rallye spare are in the trunk. The sale includes pictures taken prior to the restoration to verify its history.
While it is not certain what exactly came off the assembly line that February 1970, there are no other known V-code Mopars with this option packaging.
