This 1970 Dodge Charger R/T is documented as the reference car selected to create the Johnny Lightning 1/64 diecast model miniature. It was an inspired choice, because the full-sized Real Thing has been favored with a superb show-quality restoration—including a highly detailed undercarriage and engine compartment—performed to match the original broadcast sheet that accompanies this rare muscle Mopar as part of its documentation. The high-performance R/T version of the Charger was easily identified by the rear-facing door-mounted scoop with distinctive R/T chromed badging, and included heavy-duty springs, shocks and brakes and a choice of longitudinal or bumblebee striping.
These pointed the way to the power available under the Charger’s pinned hood, in this case the V-code 440 Six Pack big-block V-8. The Six Pack was a new addition to the Charger performance-engine line for 1970, and featured stronger connecting rods, a Lubrite-faced camshaft and new piston rings for improved oil control. One of only 337 Six Pack R/Ts built with the A727 Torqueflite automatic, this rare radio-delete car pops in bright red with a white bumblebee stripe, chromed racing mirrors, bright wheel-arch and drip-rail trim, chromed Magnum 500 wheels with Goodyear Eagle GT radials and hideaway headlights.
Finished with a black bucket-seat interior, it incorporates a center console, tinted glass, A01 Light Group, wood-grain trim and a 3-spoke Sport steering wheel.
