When George Trendle and Fran Striker set out to create their masked crime-fighting superhero in 1936, it’s a wonder if they had any clue how far reaching The Green Hornet would be. With help from radio director James Jewell, the character has been enjoyed through the radio, television, cinema and print for almost 100 years. With the help of his sidekick, Kato, and his technologically advanced car, The Green Hornet fights crime brilliantly and excitingly. Interestingly, The Green Hornet’s real identity is Britt Reid, whose father is Dan Reid Jr., the nephew of John Reid, the Lone Ranger. But that’s another story.

Back to the technologically advanced car, this is a replica of The Green Hornet’s car known as Black Beauty. Originally a 1965 Imperial coupe, it features prop machine guns on the hood, prop rockets in the rear bumper, unique front and tail treatments, and an interior with a bench seat, ornamental toggle switches and a control stick. Powered by a 413 CI V-8 engine with an automatic transmission, Black Beauty is very much a luxurious Imperial, thanks to the power steering, 4-wheel power disc brakes and air conditioning. However, the Jet Black paint, tinted glass, slightly raked chassis, 5-spoke wheels and spinners and Goodyear tires all spell crime fighter.
