Dale Earnhardt Jr. came out from behind his late father’s shadow to prove himself a winner, and the car offered here is a very special part of his heritage. In the ultra-competitive NASCAR series of the 21st century, teams have specific cars for specific tracks. Though today it appears to have perhaps lived life as a show car, this vehicle is the actual 2007 No. 8 Budweiser Car of Tomorrow (COT) NASCAR Chevrolet Impala raced by Earnhardt only at Sonoma and Watkins Glen. A road-racing-executed build, it began as Dale Earnhardt Inc. chassis DEI-0307023, and is known as Car No. 08-052 with its NASCAR RFID tags intact.
Never wrecked, this beautiful machine is documented with original DEI build information, inspection records and chassis setup sheets. Under the hood is the DEI-built Chevrolet NASCAR small-block engine complete with original build records, as well as a NASCAR-type driveline. All the unique DEI road-course equipment is intact, including spindles, truck arms and lower control arms, plus correct Earnhardt signature-engraved parts, including spring perches, motor mounts and the dash panel. Inside are the Earnhardt ISP road-course seat with correct Sabelt harnesses and associated equipment that made these revolutionary COT cars into transitional icons of speed and durability.
Brought back to as-built beauty, the No. 8 Impala has been authenticated by Crew Chief Tony Eury Jr. and No. 8 car shop Supervisor Brian Cram, and further features a Dale Earnhardt Jr. signature. Moreover, its refreshing was fully documented with a hard-bound restoration volume showing each step of restoration and its race history included in the sale. Also included will be a NASCAR high-volume refueling can, oil-tank heater control, crew shirts and hats. Sold on a bill of sale, this car raced by the Earnhardt family authentically represents a moment in NASCAR history. Of course, no mufflers, so it might wake up the neighbors in the morning, but that’s racing, the way it ought to be.
