After the impressive Impala for 1958, it might seem odd that Chevrolet never developed the styling concept further. There is no doubt that they had plans to, but they came to naught once designer Chuck Jordan peeked over the wall and spied Chrysler’s finned 1957 line, it was decided that GM change their design direction to keep up with new styling trends. All GM activity came to a halt while a Plan B was instigated, a corporate-wide design of all-new cars for 1959. The winged ’59 Chevys were the result. One distinctive difference between the Impala and its competitors were the Impala’s outward facing fins resembling the shape of a bird, instead of the customary skyward pointing fins. 1959 was the only year for this radical and innovative design.

With a past that has resulted in AACA Senior Grand National and a 2002 National Senior First, this exciting and beautifully restored Impala Convertible is powered by the desirable 348-cid, 280-hp V-8 engine with Tri-power carburetion and dual exhaust. Mated to an automatic transmission, this example is laden with the hardware that made the era famous: Continental kit, dual antennas and the dash-mounted compass all fit the bill. Additionally there is air conditioning, Wonder Bar AM radio with rear speaker, vanity mirror, trunk light, brake warning light, dual mirrors, Speedminder warning option, whitewall tires, factory spinner hubcaps; power windows, steering, brakes, top, and seat.

Authentic convertible glamour is in abundance in this agile traveler; be on the go and enjoy ‘50s style in the top-line Chevrolet.

This beautiful Chevrolet has numerous AACA awards to its credit from 1999 through 2010; for a full listing, please contact your Auctions America specialist.
