Chevrolet’s 1970 Chevelle is wrapped in glory as a legend from the classic muscle-car era, and this superb big-block convertible demonstrates that today it is also an excellent candidate for a skilled Resto Mod build by the right talents. Approximately seven years ago, it was the recipient of a nut-and-bolt frame-off rotisserie build by renowned professional Hot Rod builder Bobby Alloway of Alloway Hot Rod Shop in Louisville, Tennessee. Performed at a cost of an estimated $125,000, this custom Chevelle was created for a Knoxville, Tennessee, customer to his personal specifications, the first of which was its GM Performance 502/502 long-block-assembly crate engine.
The central component in the car’s SS454 theme, it was finished to look like an LS6 powerplant with the addition of a Holley carburetor and fuel lines on an LS6 aluminum intake manifold, a cowl-induction setup and air-cleaner assembly, chromed valve covers and cast-iron exhaust manifolds. It was mated to a 400 Turbo Hydra-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt Positraction rear end. Tuxedo Black paint, contrasting white sport stripes and full SS badging further establish the theme on this code-19 factory black Chevelle, along with bits blacked-out front grille and rear bumper insert, bright wheel-arch trim and SS 5-spoke wheels with Firestone Wide Oval tires.
The undercarriage is completed to the same high level of finish as the rest of the car, revealing power steering, power front disc brakes, dual exhaust with chromed tips and pristine finishes throughout. Beneath the modern, new, power-operated Haartz black-fabric soft top, the interior also brims with SS finery, including the SS round-gauge instrument panel with 6,500 RPM tachometer, bucket seats with a locking center console, sport steering wheel, tinted glass and AM/FM radio. At a mere 181 miles since its completion, this brilliant Resto Modded Chevelle convertible will provide years of fun for its new owner.
