A modern take on an early-‘50s American classic, this 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe has been given an impressive custom treatment while preserving the most significant original features to maintain its vintage character. Based on the original all-steel body with original body panels, its foundation remains the original factory frame, which has been smoothed and painted to match the quality of the deep black exterior finish. While the hood and trunk lid have been smoothed and the tail lights replaced with 1954 pieces, the car otherwise features the Bel Air model stainless steel beltline and body side trim, as well as the chromed front and rear bumpers and front grille.

The custom interior is a pleasing mix of old and new, featuring cleanly pleated cream leather upholstery with a color-matching lower dash, a 15-inch vintage style steering wheel on a tilt column, heat and air conditioning and a custom stereo sound system. In keeping with the car’s vintage theme, the dash features stock chrome and stainless steel moldings.

This sharp Bel Air’s finely detailed engine compartment remains faithful to its roots with a Chevrolet small-block V-8 fitted with a 4-barrel carburetor atop an aluminum intake manifold, Corvette LT1-style finned aluminum valve covers and tube-steel headers feeding dual exhaust; a 700R automatic transmission transmits power to the rear wheels. The car’s underpinnings have been thoroughly modernized to produce a comfortable ride in concert with modern handling. A custom-built independent front suspension system was supplied by leading IFS experts Scott’s Hot Rods and incorporates tubular upper and lower A-arms and power rack-and-pinion steering.

The 4-bar rear suspension features a narrowed Chevrolet 10-bolt rear end and Air Ride Technologies Shockwaves, and power disc brakes are featured at each corner. Riding on Nitto tires fitted to 18-inch front and 20-inch rear Billet Specialties Bonneville wheels, this very sharp 1953 Chevrolet Bel Air Coupe shows the quality craftsmanship and “just right” stance that are signature to today’s custom vibe.
