The Cadillac Automobile Company was established in 1902, named after French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe sierra de Cadillac, who had founded Detroit in 1701. General Motors (GM) acquired Cadillac in 1909, becoming the prestige division of the corporation and synonymous since with some of the world’s most opulent and sumptuous motor cars. GM embarked upon a strategy in the late 1990's to use the Cadillac brand to capitalise on the relentlessly strong European executive luxury segment.
With power from GM's advanced four-cam 4.6-Litre North Star V8 producing 305bhp, the Cadillac STS boasted a higher specification than its direct rivals and GM elected to compete head to head on price. Despite its efforts, just 649 Cadillac STSs were sold in the whole of Europe in 2001. Our car, a righthand drive built for the UK market, was registered in its first year to GM Vauxhall Motors before being sold to a retired Doctor who has been the registered keeper ever since. Specified in metallic deep red with beige leather upholstery, the car presents superbly and is a credit to his gentle use and care. The car delivers effortless power and a magic carpet ride driving experience.
