  • First year for the LeSabre nameplate; wears Buick’s bold, new-for-1959 styling
  • Custom-built by Color On Wheels of Denver, Colorado with many unique touches throughout
  • Equipped with a Donovan Racing 540-cu. in. V-8; automatic transmission with TCI Outlaw shifter
  • Attractive two-tone exterior finished in metallic brown with a white roof
  • Interior features custom two-tone upholstery, Classic Instruments gauges, and a Kenwood media unit

The 1959 Buicks were radical departures from their predecessors, with the entire lineup trading the chrome-heavy ornamentation of the Fabulous Fifties for long, low, and wide modern sleekness. These bold new cars demanded new model names as well, and so Buick introduced the LeSabre, Invicta, and Electra badges for the 1959 model year.

Drawing its name from the 1951 General Motors dream car, the 1959 LeSabre represented Buick’s entry-level model. These were still well-equipped cars, however, complete with a 364 cubic-inch V-8 and an available Dynaflow automatic transmission. A full range of body styles, from a two-door convertible to a four-door station wagon, was offered. The first-generation LeSabre was built for two years only; its exterior sheet metal was substantially revised for the 1960 model year, making 1959 examples all the more desirable.

This 1959 LeSabre Hardtop Coupe, with its clean, first-year styling, has been enhanced by a thorough customization carried out under previous ownership by Color On Wheels of Denver, Colorado. Under the hood, cradled in a very tidy engine bay, is a 540-cubic-inch Donovan Racing aluminum-block V-8—providing substantial upgrade in output over the model’s stock 250 horsepower motor. Its subtly raked stance gives the car an even more dynamic look, appropriate given the power lurking under the hood. Behind the polished five-spoke wheels at each corner are Wilwood disc brakes to help bring everything to a stop. Two-tone exterior paintwork, pairing an attractive metallic brown body with a white roof, completes the exterior.

The interior has been completely transformed as well, with two-tone leather upholstery accented by select body-colored elements, including the central console. A purposeful TCI Outlaw shifter operates the car’s automatic transmission, and Classic Instruments gauges sit in front of the driver. For entertainment, the car is equipped with a Kenwood media unit, while air conditioning keeps things cool. Even the trunk has been trimmed to match the cabin, indicating the consideration that went into every aspect of this build.

The 1959 LeSabre is a striking car even in stock configuration, and a well-executed custom build can take its unforgettable lines to the next level. This unique Hardtop Coupe elevates an already-desirable body style with extra power, an aggressive stance, and a fully upgraded interior, and it is sure to be a standout in cruise nights, at local shows, and even on casual drives.
