Bugatti’s modern era has always been about exceeding what was previously thought possible in a production car in terms of luxury, craftsmanship, and, of course, performance. Since the debut of the Veyron, a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16 engine has sat at the very heart of the Bugatti story. Rated at nearly 1,000 horsepower in the Veyron’s initial production form, this powerplant, an engineering marvel in its own right, was also used to great acclaim in the Bugatti Chiron.

As it evolved and grew in potency, the W-16 enabled these cars to further push the envelope, achieving ever-greater feats of speed. With the introduction of the Tourbillon hypercar, Bugatti bid farewell to the W-16 in favor of a V-16 hybrid powertrain. It was only proper that the marque would give the W-16 a grand send-off…and that is precisely what the Bugatti Bolide represents.

Constructed in a limited quantity of just 40 examples worldwide, the Bugatti Bolide—a name that evokes a meteor streaking across the sky—boasts extraordinarily focused performance potential even beyond that of Bugatti’s typical production cars. Fittingly for a marque that built so much of its early reputation on the racetrack, the Bolide is a pure, track-only machine unencumbered by road car restrictions.

In production form, the Bolide’s W-16 produces 1,578 horsepower (~1,600 PS) and 1,180 pound-feet of torque, channeled through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to the ground via a permanent all-wheel drive system. Notably, this gearbox has a reverse gear—a feature not included on the initial Bolide concept in the all-out pursuit of weight savings, but one that improves all-around drivability.

Increased power is paired with substantially reduced weight: Bugatti enveloped the W-16 in a bespoke carbon fiber monocoque, contributing to a dry weight of just 3,197 pounds (over 1,100 pounds lighter than a standard Chiron). The performance figures are, predictably, staggering: Zero to 60 mph takes as little as 2.2 seconds, and zero to 186 mph can be attained in just 11.5 seconds.

A new pushrod suspension setup and an extreme aerodynamic package further contribute to generating some 2.5 G of cornering forces and over 5,800 pounds of downforce, allowing Bugatti to claim that the Bolide offers the performance and handling dynamics of a thoroughbred, top-tier LMP1 sports racing car.

Configured specifically for its current and sole owner, a significant collector of both classic and modern vehicles, this Bolide wears an exterior livery of Blue Royal tinted carbon fiber with Agile Blue accents. Course Pro wheels are finished in La Patron, a color named in tribute to Ettore Bugatti himself, and wrapped in Michelin racing tires. The interior is trimmed in Bugatti Light Blue Sport Alcantara, with Lake Blue contrasts on the door panels and in the seat stitching. Aluminum trim and matte carbon fiber are found throughout; the result is a cockpit that, while not as opulent as a Bugatti road car, is far more sophisticated and civilized than that of a typical bare-bones track toy.

With a total cost new in excess of $5,400,000, this Bolide was completed and delivered in 2025. Offered now displaying 77 miles at the time of cataloguing, which represents factory test mileage only, this Bolide is in effectively as-delivered condition. It is accompanied by two Bugatti “flight cases,” owner’s manual, car cover, tool bag, battery conditioner, and a set of four spare wheels.

As a grand finale for Bugatti’s landmark W-16 era, the Bolide will always hold a special place in the marque’s history—and as an endlessly fascinating work of design and engineering, it will no doubt tempt its next owner to experience Molsheim’s very best on the closed circuit, where so much of the enduring

legend was forged.
