When BMW tasked its in-house Motorsport division with infusing its 6-series E24 with race-bred engineering and sport appointments, the resulting BMW M6 embodied peak-‘80s European-car power and luxury fused into a single automobile. This 1987 BMW M6 was built in April 1987 and sold new at Cummins Motor Sales in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to its original and only owner. The luxury-sport coupe is one of only 1,632 constructed to U.S.-market specifications. Unrestored with no modifications to the original BMW Motorsport formula, the one-owner M6 still wears its original Cinnabar Red paint and displays just 31,718 original miles on the odometer. Even the factory VIN stickers are still intact.
The 3.5L inline 6-cylinder S38 engine utilizes a dual overhead camshaft 24-valve cylinder head for 256 HP at 6,500 RPM and 243 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 RPM. Bosch fuel injection feeds individual throttle bodies for maximum performance and unmistakable intake growl on the way to a top speed of more than 140 MPH. The Motorsport division added a Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox, tuned suspension with stabilizers, limited-slip rear differential and 4-wheel vented disc brakes. The M6 rides on its factory-issue metric BBS mesh wheels and new Michelin TRX tires. The U.S.-market M6 came standard with every option for Highline sport luxury.
Hand-stitched Natural Nappa leather envelopes the dashboard, console, doors and heated power-adjustable Recaro-style bucket seats. Black leather trims the 3-spoke sports steering wheel and shift knob. Power-operated windows, side mirrors and two-way sunroof meet an 8-speaker AM/FM stereo with cassette-tape player and equalizer. Automatic air conditioning with a supplemental rear system helps keep the cabin at optimal temperature. This BMW M6 comes with its original window sticker, sales brochure, owner's manuals, service records and a clean Carfax.
