Commencing in the early 1980s with the 'homologation special' M3, BMW Motorsport GmbH went on to create its own powerful 'M-Power' brand of performance-enhanced luxury saloons. The first (E28) M5 debuted at the Amsterdam Automobile Salon in 1985 and was based on the medium-sized 5-Series saloon, its combination of a 268bhp six-cylinder engine in a relatively lightweight bodyshell making for outstanding performance. Indeed, with a six-second 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time and 155mph (249km/h) top speed, the M5 was the quickest four-door production car of its day.
Chassis improvements included lowered and stiffened suspension, wider wheels, ABS-equipped ventilated disc brakes, and a limited-slip differential as standard. This first M5 established a successful pattern that BMW would follow from then onwards. In 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show BMW introduced the fifth generation M5 - the F10 - which was the first of the M5 family to have a turbocharged engine (a 4.4-litre V8) and a dual-clutch (seven-speed) transmission. An alternative six-speed manual transmission was available in the USA.
With a maximum of 553bhp on tap and a mighty 502lb/ft of torque available from 1,500 to 5,750rpm, the new F10 M5 could reach 100km/h (62mph) from rest in a mere 4.4 seconds on its way to a top speed (with the optional Driver's Package fitted) of 305km/h (190mph). Other noteworthy features included six-piston front brake callipers (carbon ceramic discs optional); 19" alloy wheels (20" optional); and an active differential providing torque vectoring between the rear wheels. Production of the F10 series ended in October 2016.
First registered in the UAE on 20th April 2015, this one-owner F10 M5 has covered a mere 349 kilometres since it left the factory and is presented in effectively 'as new' condition. The car is finished in 'Ferrarirot' (Ferrari Red) with black/red leather interior and comes with all books, two keys, and a cancelled Swiss Carte Grise. Stored for some time, it will require re-commissioning to a greater or lesser extent before further use and thus is sold strictly as viewed.
